The Inventory

The Inventory of Assisted Rental Housing is an internet-accessible database providing a comprehensive and up-to-date count of unit-based rental assistance. It includes existing and planned rental units in the seven-county metropolitan area that receive public or private funding with a requirement that unit rents remain affordable.

Enter HousingLink's Inventory of Assisted Rental Housing
to find information about affordable housing stock.

NEW! The way the Online Inventory of Assisted Rental Housing searches using Area Median Income (AMI) has changed. Whereas, the database used to search using “Maximum AMI” as a primary search criteria, the database now searches using “Target AMI” as a primary search criteria.

You’ll also notice that the background color has changed to green.

Note: This is not HousingLink's Online Directory.

It does not include vacancies or contact information for people interested in renting at the property.

How do I use The Inventory?

What is The Inventory?

The Inventory of Assisted Rental Housing is an internet-accessible database that:

  • provides a comprehensive and up-to-date count of unit-based rental assistance.

  • includes existing and planned rental units that receive public or private funding with a requirement that unit rents remain affordable.

  • includes information for the seven-county metropolitan region of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

The database allows users to search for information that meets specific criteria. The Inventory is a collaborative project.

Who is The Inventory designed for?

The database is designed to help funders, policymakers, and the general public to better understand what the supply of affordable rental housing is in the Twin Cities.

The Inventory is not designed to serve as a tool to assist in a housing search. HousingLink offers other resources that will be more helpful in identifying housing options. Visit the Resources web page for more information.

How is it different from HousingLink's Online Directory?

HousingLink’s Online Directory is designed to help people seeking housing to identify affordable properties that are most likely to meet their needs. In contrast, the primary focus of the Inventory is to provide a comprehensive count of assisted units in the region.

How current is the information?

The initial information was collected from public officials at city, county, regional and state agencies throughout the metropolitan area during 2002 through 2007 (Quarter 4). In addition, each property detail includes a last updated date in the Identification Information section.

How is The Inventory funded?

The Inventory is funded by members of the Interagency Stabilization Group, including the Family Housing Fund, Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development Agency (CPED), Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, Ramsey County, and the City of Saint Paul.
