Section 8 Voucher Program Information: State of Minnesota What is the Section 8 Voucher program? The Section 8 Voucher program (a.k.a. Section 8 Housing Choice program) is a federal housing subsidy program offering rental assistance to qualifying applicants. Although it is funded by the federal government, it is administered by local housing authorities. Minnesota Section 8 Voucher Jurisdictions The map below is color-coded according to Minnesota's Section 8 Voucher program jurisdictions. Jurisdictions are made up of either one city or county, or a combination of cities and counties. How it works Qualifying renters can use a Section 8 voucher to pay for a portion of their rent in any private market vacancy that will accept Section 8 Vouchers. (Note: Renters with and without Section 8 Vouchers are subject to landlords' screening processes before being accepted as tenants.) Because the program offers so much choice, it is the most popular subsidized housing program and therefore the most difficult program for which to qualify. |
