Minnesota Foreclosure Data

HousingLink is an independent, nonpartisan, Twin Cities-based organization that specializes in the collection and distribution of affordable housing information. HousingLink's data and information is utilized by various stakeholder groups including direct service providers, housing providers and policymakers within our service area. Because of the vast impact of the recent foreclosure crisis, HousingLink has undertaken several foreclosure data collection efforts through partnerships with other local organizations. These reports are located below.

This table provides a summary of foreclosures for 2005-2008 in Minnesota.

NEW! Minnesota Foreclosure Report (2008)
Foreclosures in Minnesota: A Report Based on Sheriff's Sale Data
Released: April 2008

This report was commissioned by the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, Family Housing Fund, Minnesota Home Ownership Center, and Minnesota Housing to provide policymakers and other community leaders with updated Minnesota foreclosure data as they continue to design solutions that respond to foreclosures and their impact on Minnesota Communities. This is a follow-up to foreclosure reports commissioned by Greater Minnesota Housing Fund in July and October of 2007 in which comparable analysis and maps were presented. HousingLink was contracted to conduct the research and prepare the analysis in each of the reports.

Key updated foreclosure data included in this report includes: foreclosure counts and rates updated for Minnesota counties (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 projected) and Minnesota foreclosure trends.

Minnesota Foreclosure Report (2007)
Supplement: Foreclosures in Greater Minnesota: A Report Based on County Sheriff’s Sale Data.
Released: November 2007

This supplement has been produced as a follow-up to Foreclosures in Greater Minnesota: A Report Based on Sheriff’s Sale Data published on July 2, 2007. This new supplement includes new 2007 sheriff’s sale projections based on updated Q1-Q3 2007 data for all Minnesota counties.

NEW! Updated Supplement Map. This new map represents the same data as in the supplement report, but provides greater detail for counties with the highest foreclosure rates.

(Note: This supplement also includes sheriff’s sale data for the Twin Cities 7-county metro area whereas the original report did not include that information.)

Information included in the supplement covers foreclosures in 2005, 2006, and Q1-Q3 of 2007.

Greater Minnesota Foreclosure Report (2007)
Foreclosures in Greater Minnesota: A Report Based on County Sheriff’s Sale Data.
Released: August 2007

In June 2007, Greater Minnesota Housing Fund (GMHF) asked HousingLink to collect data that would provide a clearer picture of how the national foreclosure crisis is affecting those that GMHF serves. This report contains key findings, maps of foreclosure rates across the state and tables detailing both the number and rate of foreclosures on a county-level basis for Greater Minnesota.

In addition, a sample of detailed sheriff's sale records is analyzed to provide an in-depth perspective on the characteristics of foreclosure in selected Minnesota counties.

Information included in the report covers foreclosures in 2005, 2006, and Q1 2007.

This report has been produced by HousingLink with support from the Foreclosure Prevention Funders Council. This report is designed to provide a comprehensive snapshot of the foreclosure situation in the Twin Cities seven-county metro area using data from December 2006 sheriff's sale records.
