Program Information
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded program that helps low-income
households pay the rent on private, market-rate rental units.

The renter finds a unit (within certain requirements); the participant pays 30-40% of their household’s adjusted gross income; the HRA pays a portion of the rent directly to the property.

Example of rent at 30% of income: Household with one full-time worker at $15.00/hour might
pay $780 per month for rent.
This is a tenant-based subsidy (The subsidy goes with the tenant).
